Cleveland County announces enhanced benefits for veterans

The American - 7/12/2017

Cleveland County announced the rollout of additional benefits for veterans. These benefits include free parking in new designated spaces on the west side of the courthouse effective immediately. The spaces make it easier for veterans to access the various free services provided to them throughout the courthouse.

"We want to ensure that those who have served our country have easy access to the courthouse whenever they need it," said Mark Braley, Veteran's Services Coordinator for Cleveland County. The Veterans Services Coordinator works in conjunction with the County Health Department.

The two spaces are designated with "Courtesy Space for Veterans" and are free for any veteran. These spaces can be used for any courthouse business including filing of DD-214 with the County Clerk's office. In addition to filing the DD-214s, the Clerk's office will also print new copies of filed DD-214s and certify them at no charge to veterans.

Additionally, the Treasurer's office will make free copies of official military documents such as orders or medical records for veterans. The Commissioner's office will notarize documents free of charge for veterans.

Property record cards are also available free of charge for veterans through the Assessor's office. The Assessor's office will also work with 100 percent disabled veterans to file for real property tax exemption.

"I could not be prouder to announce this expansion of the county's recognition of our veterans," said Commissioner Darry Stacy. "The parking spaces are a continuation of the efforts Cleveland County has made to honor our veterans and ensure that they receive all the benefits and honors that their service warrants."
