Golf Events Kick Off Fundraisers to Support Moore County Veterans

The Pilot - 8/28/2017

Several events are planned in early September to raise money to support veterans.

There will be a golf outing Sept. 6 at Pinewild Country Club, with support from the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) and three other veteran organizations, offering discounted golf to residents, non-residents and members alike.

The Sandhills MOAA will be holding a golf tournament Sept. 13 at the Country Club of Whispering Pines, with one of the beneficiaries being MOAA's Moore County "Veteran Support Fund."

Golf Outing at Pinewild

The Sept. 6 golf outing is not a competition, just an opportunity to play golf at Pinewild.

Participants, who do not have to be members at Pinewild, will pay $49 for a round of golf, which includes all golf and cart related fees, range balls and a raffle ticket.

Additional raffle tickets will be available for purchase.

Over the past several years, the Pinewild community has raised around $45,000 during the event.

This year the outing will benefit the Brotherhood of Warriors, the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Military Missions in Action (MMIA) and the Veteran's Support Fund.

For more information or to make a tee time, call the Pinewild pro shop at (910) 295-5145

On Friday, Sept. 8, there will be a Pinewild Car Show that will also raise funds.

The MOAA Sandhills Classic

The Classic is set for Wednesday, Sept. 13, at the CC of Whispering Pines.

The format will be a four-person scramble. There will be a 9 a.m. shotgun start.

The cost is $100 per player, and includes a continental breakfast, all golf related fees and a lunch buffet.

For non-players who would like to attend the lunch, the cost is $15.

All players also get a voucher for a foursome at the CC of Whispering Pines and Foxfire for a $20 cart fee per player.

In addition to the Veteran Support Fund, monies raised by the event will also provide funding for eight college scholarships for the top JROTC students from eight area high schools.
